Winning Hearts and Minds: Lessons from Medical Education on Navigating Misinformation, Emotion, and Identity
Public trust in institutional expertise is rapidly eroding across an algorithm-driven media landscape. As a result, traditional approaches to sharing evidence are no longer persuading the public; presenting “just the facts” often hardens skepticism rather than changing minds. In this webinar, UCSF educators Anna Chang, MD, Calvin Chou, MD, PhD, and Meg McNamara, MD, present a new framework designed to teach health professions trainees how to navigate medical misinformation. Using medical education as a case study, the panel will explore how emotional self-regulation, shared identity, and storytelling can transform high-stakes conversations. Attendees will gain practical, cross-disciplinary tools for updating curricula, fostering trust, and communicating across ideological divides.
